Yes, Giardia in canines is easily spread through close contact but, it is also spread through contaminated water AND dog feces (
and yes, dogs CAN catch it via poop especially, when they consider poop a treat!

I had a little foster Yorkie who came to me thru an unreputable rescue group who specialized in large breed dogs. This despicable rescue group did not protect their outdoor water sources as well as keep their flea & tic population under control.
This poor little pup came to me with tic's hanging even off of her eyelids!

What was worse, they not only knew about her Tic infestation but, knowingly exposed my Yorkies as well to Giardia after being warned by their local Humane Society that they contacted after they reported her symptoms of diarrhea.
Long story short...each of my three own Yorkies became infected with Giardia! So, is it easily spread? YES! Why? Because, my Bella loves to eat poop and then drank from the communal water bowl!
