Mine only went into heat at 9 months the first time. I was scared I would miss it somehow but you wont. She will start to lick herself a lot more than usual and her vulva will swell up considerably and she will bleed. Some dogs hardly bleed, mine seemed to bleed a lot in her first heat and less in her second. If you have intact males around they will be a sure way of knowing because they will show her more attention than normal.
I find with mine, when she is coming into heat she starts to act a little skittish as well and almost nervous and sensitive. She also sometimes get picky with eating
