I have found that it is better if you find a smaller place and not a big building because then the landlords tend to be a lot more lenient because if they own a huge complex they can't make an exception for you and not for other people. I live in a building that has 8 units. When our landlord puts a place up for rent he doesn't say you can have pets but if you talk to him he will let you if he meets the pet. There are only 2 of us with pets. I wouldn't ask if it says NO PETS but I would definitely ask if it doesn't say cuz it doesn't hurt to ask.
