It's too bad she didn't remember that you wanted him before she gave him to someone else but hopefully he is better off. Do you think she charged a rehoming fee and didn't feel comfortable charging you? Will she tell you who has him? Maybe you could "follow up" with them to see if all is going well, if not, they might be willing to let you take him even if they charge a rehoming fee it would be worth it to get him.
