From what I have read about anal gland ruptures there are 2 prior stages before it just ruptures. One of the symptoms is that the dog strains to poop and he has never had a problem pooping and in fact pooped this morning with the bloody butt without a problem.
I'm actually living in Chicago (have to update my profile) and my vet and other local vets appear to be closed today. I put some skin relief lotion and am going to buy some Neosporin to put on as well and cover the area so he doesn't nibble on it. If it's still bad tomorrow, I'm going to take him to the vet.

There are plenty of vets open today in the Chicago area. I'm still concerned about this and he really needs to be seen.
Here is a list of vets in your area. There are several that are open today. Even the Banfield inside of Petsmart (not a fan but sure would use it in a pinch) is open until 6 pm today.
