My little Yorkie (14 months old) is the roughest toughest little guy in the world with no skin problems and very greasy hair.

I'll get criticized -- but this works best for us right now. I bath my Yorkie only once a week. I shampoo him with Joy (dishwashing detergent) because it really cuts down on the oil. Then I shampoo his head with a good puppy tearless shampoo. And I rinse him very very well. (There is no soap left in his hair when I get through rinsing.)

Again - my puppy has no skin problems. He never scratches and has no problems of any kind. IF - he ever should ever seem to be having any problems from the shampoo I am using - I will quickly change to something else. And, even though I use the Joy now, I still plan to check out puppy shampoos and try and find one that might be especially good for "oily hair." I should try some of the ones that some of you have mentioned.

I also keep his hair cut very short in a puppy cut. He looks so much better and neater this way.

My puppy's hair is also very thin right now. I think as he grows and his coat thickens, we have less problems with the grease. There will be more hair and a thicker coat for it to disperse in.

Good luck - Carol Jean
