Going through a similar situation. My male is only 8 months and in no way ready to be a daddy. So what has been working for me is this. Since I am currently showing him he gets wrapped in the morning and a belly band plus his wrapping jacket go on, then I put a harness over the wrapping jacket and have a leash tied to my belt loop and he stays with me whenever Friday is on the floor. When Friday is in my lap he gets to be off leash. She is on day 16 of her cycle and I am proud to say we have not had any accidental breedings. I have a friend that is getting ready for the baby gates and plexiglass with her group. I wish I could use baby gates but we have a few doorways that are wider than normal plus My 82 year old Mother in Law lives with us and she has senile dementia so I have to do what works for our situation.
