Well 6 teeth left at four years old is not a good sign. Do you do anything between cleanings to help reduce tartar? Yorkies are notorious for making tartar, and tartar can cause bad breath. If tartar builds up it goes under the gums, and can cause food to grow in pockets, which also stinks because it's rotting food. There are several things you can do to reduce tartar build-up, and I recommend doing more than one thing. For Joey we use a specially formulated food that says reduces tartar build-up, along with that we use Petzlife, and it is sprayed on teeth and it's suppose to soften tartar, and you can brush it away at a later time. We also use bully sticks and I think hard sticks can "scrape" away tartar. Of course we also brush his teeth, and at his 4-year check-up his vet says there is minimal tartar on his teeth and he doesn't even need a cleaning yet. My advice would be to implement some type of cleaning program to save remaining teeth and to keep gums healthy. Digestive issues can also cause bad breath; you might want to look at a food change as well, but you definitely have some dental issues going on that need to be addressed. |
