Your vet will test for heartworms by a blood sample. It can be done right in the office using a snap test. Or, the vet may do blood work and send it out to the lab for testing. The heartworm test is usually done annually. Your pet should also be on heartworm prevention. Our dogs are on the medication interceptor for this.
