dissappointing call.. i had a call today from someone who purchased a pup from me a year ago..a pup that i really adored ..anywho
i really liked this person, the family. we talked for hours, we discussed plans and emergency savings and pet insurance the whole 9 yards. i located a vet for the family in their area, i gave numbers to the insurances, we discussed in detail everything that i could think of and i answered all their questions..
and i always request that if something happens..bring them back..i will rehome them...its actually in the purchase agreement
the pick up went very smooth..i was phoned often on the pups progression, training and vet care, etc..alot, actually from the entire family
out of the blue i get a call that the pup was rehomed to a family friend because money got tight and they could not purchase food or last shots..
i dont want to sound hateful i really dont..
but
1st: the pups last shots should have been completed months ago
2nd: i know there is a big thing about feeding the very best but if times are hard pick up a cheap bag to get you through..for a small dog it will last a long time....i actually have a my male on Puppy chow ($5.99) because its the only thing that wont upset his stomach..my vet said to keep him on it if he is having no trouble keeping it down..we've tried high and mid quality foods for him with out sucess..so that should be affordable if nothing else
anyways back to the story
heres the kicker...
the family wanted to know if i had any upcoming litters or available pups?..my question is why? well we would like to try again with a better knowledge of preparing for everything..
ok you would rather spend another 800+ for a pup when you could not purchase a bag of food..?? im stumped..i didnt say that i didnt want to be rude or hateful but ..really?
i was so at a loss for words..i just said no..i have nothing coming..even if i had i would have just said no..
i guess my main problem is, im not angry like i thought i was im disappointed.
i cant understand not having the funds to care for a already paid for pet thats in your home but having the availability/funds to purchase another one..
the talk of limited funds made me wonder if the dog was sold for extra money instead..but thats just speculation
i know times are hard..my husband has been out of work since Oct...me since the year before..but we find ways to manage and care for our pets and children..i mean right after my husband lost his job bella need a pin inserted in her leg and thank fully i have a vet who truly cares and works with his patients and their owners..
i should have been more upfront about my feelings to the family..and given them food for thought...maybe they would think about it harder before purchasing again...wish i had said more..i would have rehomed the pup myself so that i could have interviewed new homes..
i guess whats done is done...and i know i will not offer another pup to them in in the future...
i understand wanting a pet..i have 4 and love them all
but im confused on what really happened here..and would be concerned about placing another dog with the family at this time. how is the next time going to be different?
im no innocent i have rehomed homed pets...when trying to organize a breeding a program i have had males who were way to large i re homed them..but "I" rehomed them and knew where they were going
ok..sorry for the long vent.. |
