The short answer is: anytime it's better for the pet.
I have also rehomed two pets. I would never consider Craigslist.
The first, was a beautiful white German Shepard. I was young and definitely not prepared for the dog. I only got him in the first place because someone else was going to put him to sleep (via bullet) since he was white. I figured I could help him out. I lived in a one bedroom apartment, worked full time, had no idea how to have dog, but I gave it a go. I got all his shots, got him neutered, enrolled in training classes and everything but it was just too much for me and him. Also, he was deaf. I ended up re-homing him to a very small family farm that already had two much loved GSD's.
I also re-homed a cat/kitten. She went to a co-worker of mine. It's been 6 years now, and she's very happy/healthy. |
