I would not use the breeder. Look at the adult dogs -- dams and sires on the site. Are those really what you will want your Yorkie to look like? Very out-of-standard dogs -- not even close to the quality I would look for in a breeding pair! All puppies can look cute so look to the dam & sire and don't let a fresh little puppy face fool you. Not one of those adult dogs looked like one that I would go looking for. Not to say they aren't wonderful pets, but when you buy a registered purebred, you usually want them to look like one. For me, the look of the dogs would make the decision instantly, but looking further I will add ....................
I agree about the commercial breeder aspect. This site appears to be in this for quantity over quality. When they say they are USDA licensed, they like to make it sound like a good thing. Truth is only those selling to pet shops & brokers or those selling great quantities of pups are required to be licensed and no one wants to get a USDA license unless they are commercial. It does sound like they are only bringing dogs to the house when a litter is born, so they must be keeping the others in a kennel building or barn. There are so many dams & sires listed, that I imagine keeping them all in the home would be impossible. I prefer my pups to come from dogs raised as pets inside the home. I just feel buying from a commercial enterprise that treats the breeding dogs like livestock is contributing to their mistreatment. No $$$ goes from my pocket to a greeder!!
The AKC Certificate of Achievement she touts on her site is NOT in special recognition at all, but only a certificate of passing inspection on that date. You only have to be providing the minimum of care and paperwork looking in order, to pass -- there can still be discrepancies or problems. She does not post prices but say "after agreeing on a price" ...... then you can pay on the site by paypal/credit card. |
