Zinfindel, Petit Syrah, and Pinot Noir are your best bet for starting wines. They tend to be fruitier and have less tanin as compared to other red wines. Tanin is what makes your mouth feel dry after a glass of wine, and they are only found in reds. FYI, the benefits are supposed to come from red wine.

California and Australia tend to have fruitier wines than Europe.

The best way to find a good wine is to start drinking! You can go to a wine store and ask for a rec.
