My favorite brand names are: Sutter House White Zinfandel, Yellowtail (any variety), and i try a lot of my local winery bottles at the grocery store.

if you like a dry stick to that in reds and whites, if you like a semi-dry or semi-sweet stay with those, if you like sweets go with the sparklings whites like Asti-spumante or Moscatos\

the best bet. go to tastings and figure out what you like and buy cheap types until you know what you like. once you find a variety of grape you like THEN go for the more expensive brands and try new things. Wine is all about getting a new bottle each time and having a very different experience.

i've had elderberry, rhubarb, blackberry, muscadine, blueberry and others. all were ok, some great, some strange.
