Never in a million years!
Woohoo!!! Layla's done crate rest TOMORROW!!!
But now I'm not sure what to do with her. I think our routine now is great... she sleeps in her stroller all day except for one or two bathroom breaks, and then at home she is free to play in the evenings on the area rug and she snuggles on the couch with us while we watch tv and she sleeps in her bed all night... I am considering just keeping this up. Maybe during my lunch break I can take her for walks around the office, and play some fetch in the hallway. But having her content in her stroller now isn't hurting her, and if she needs to go back on crate rest at any point, she won't have to get used to it all over again. It also saves me having to put up gates and chasing her around the office when she gets out, and watching for rug burns on her little tummy!
I think it also is just a little more professional of me too. I get worried about that now that I know this will have to be a long-term thing. Layla started coming to work with me when I asked if I could bring her in until she got better. She is not going to get better in the sense of going to the bathroom on her own, so I will always need to bring her, and I don't want them to change their minds and ask me not to bring her in anymore. I don't want to test my boundaries with this! I just feel like my desk area is more approachable now without people worrying about coming in and closing the gate and trying not to step on her.
And remember the jalepeno pepper fiasco? Our Mexican team is returning next week and Layla would always find a way out and beg for food. I know her whining gets annoying and even though it's usually at lunch time, some people still work, and like I said, I don't want to test my boundaries.
I guess I feel a little guilty because she was always a free-run dog, but I know a lot of dogs are crated for the day and they do just fine! I get so much more work done now too though, so maybe it's better all around to keep her this way. She's content - right now she's snoring super loud lol!
