I use to spend my summers there with my granparents - they lived there. There is Cherokee Village - just down the road and you have to see Unto These Hills (play of Trail of Tears). Then there is also Maggie Valley - down further. And Fontana Dam in the other direction. There is lots to do. The creeks and hiking are the best. There should be also local craft shows.
It usually always cool down at night. Love the fireflies! when you look around at the mountains - they seem foggy or smokey - reason for The Smokey Mountains naming.
