Welcome to YorkieTalk and congratulations on your new pup.

Your pup could be responding to voice tone and energy. Do you sound happy when you greet him, or do you give him the kind of "hey" that you give a friend? Try walking in and saying, "Hey buddy! How are you puppy doggy?" and if he allows you to approach him, give him a little tickle on his chest.

In other words, make sure you sound happy, exude positive energy, and give him affection.

When you give a correction ("scold" for inappropriate behavior), do it in a firm and even tone. Yelling may scare the heck out of him and turn him off to you.

You can bond with him in your home by teaching him how to play fetch, or working on obedience and trick training. I taught my boys to understand, "do you want to do tricks?" and they run to their spots and get ready to do tricks for treats.

You are correct -- these guys are very smart. Don't ever show them any frustration or impatience.

Hope some of this might help.
