If it's "real" sterling silver, yes, it will tarnish. I have to clean all my sterling silver jewerly from time to time. I'd ask a jeweler how to clean anything gold plated. I do know that anything gold plated eventually rubs off and doesn't look very good when it does.
I had a picture of my three Yorkies made into a crystal pendant, which I love more than any other type of Yorkie pendant, and now I can take them with me everywhere.
