Ellie is nine. She has bloodwork yearly. Should be twice a year. Every 3 months is fine and you will have a better chance of catching things early, but it is not considered necessary unless a health problem is present that the vet wants to monitor. Personally, I would not do it every 3 months. Ellie is seen for things a couple-few times a year though. She also spends some time at her vet office around her doctor too.
