My mom's maltipoo does this. He does it worse if he is not In his crate at night. He will bark, growl, and throw a fit if he hears the slightest creak in the house. I think I would try what was list above, a noise maker. Maybe one of those alarm clocks that makes the ocean or other sounds? Good luck
