I have two grandchildren. Both have been raised with dogs.
My 8 yr. old granddaughter has a mini doxie so she knows how to handle small dogs.
My 3 yr. old grandson was raised (I took care of hime 5 days a week) with dogs, but large dogs. He is ALWAYS supervised around my yorkie Shadow, as he is a typical rough and tumble boy. Even though he is not rough with Shadow, all it takes is a little shove of the couch, etc.
If he gets really active or Shadow gets a little nutty, I separate them, but they coexist just fine. But you do have to be vigilant.
By the way, Shadow is on the larger side, she is 8 mos old and 6 lbs, supposedly will be around 8 lbs a maturity. I would definitely suggest you look for a dog that will be at least 6 lbs. fully grown.
Best of luck. |
