I have not had any experience this way, but I would have the xray done and if it is an abscess, definitely have the tooth extracted. Pain and infection, which can affect the body's vital organs and systems, are far worse than the risk of anesthesia. If extraction is necessary, have the pre-anesthesia blood panel done.
