Default Ear Infections question

So maybe this should be in the health section, but anyway...

Harley just got over an ear infection, most likely I got some water in his ear when bathing... so I've recently learned about dog ears...

well my aunt (the owner of a rescue boarder collie) tells me that her dog constantly gets them... and well I was just introduced to that ear cleaning solution that you get at the vets that has a drying agent in it, and was told from now on when I bathe him to just dump some of this cleaner in his ears to assure it properly dries out.

She tells me that Blackie hates the cleaner and that she washes his ears with a cloth and soap and water.... I'm sorry maybe I'm not educated enough, but doesn't water cause ear infections... I'm trying to convince her to use the darn cleaner whether her dog likes it or not... to me something designed for dogs would be a better prevention for ear infections than a cloth soap and water... what about the stuff that drips down the ear?

Thoughts?
