Divinity
3 cups sugar
1 cup white karo syrup
1/2 cup water
2 egg whites beaten stiff with 1 tsp. cream of tartar
Boil sugar, syrup and water until it thread (almost to the soft ball stage). Pour 1/2 mixture into egg whites and beat at low speed while the other 1/2 of syrup boils to a hard ball. Pour into the first half of egg whites and beat until firm (10-15 min). Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 cups walnuts. Stir...let mixture stand and stir occasionally, until it holds it's shape. Put into 9X13 pan or drop by heaping teaspoon on buttered wax paper. |
