Girardia comes from being exposed to the parasite through water or food that has been contaminated with infected dogs feces. More than likely it came to your house with it from the breeders. I would talk to the vet about having your yorkiepoo tested, too.
You'll need to be scrupulous in keeping bowls and toilet areas clean while you are treating for the disease.
