I wouldn't be without the washable pads. I get mine from here:
Used Waterproof Pads
I usually buy item 222-2732, they are 30"x32" for $4.95. They are very nice and very absorbent. They are not as pretty as the custom ones that some people buy but they are very affordable. For those that don't like the white you can lay a pretty towel over them. For my boys I will sit a jug in the middle of them so they have something to hike their legs on.
