First, I would get a taller x-pen. Your family's love for this puppy should be unconditional as well as her love for you. This is why I don't like to see yorkies in the homes where people have small children.
Second, it seems like a very small thing to be made into such a major issue. Sentimentality is ok, but if it is that important then why are these things just found on the floor. Put them up so that they cannot be gotten ahold of by the puppy. It is not the puppy's fault. That is what puppies do.
Third, it is a puppy's nature to tear up things. You are responsible in puppy-proofing the house, so that if she gets around those things that she cannot get ahold of something that can harm her.
