My Romeo gets a smell around his eyes also. It is a yeasty smell. He has allergies. I took him to the vet for it. I have to keep them wiped with something mild like baby shampoo and warm water on a wash cloth. Rinse it real good. Or just warm water but dry it real good. His eyes get to itch him, That is when I notice it. I would ask his vet. Good luck
