I'm a total novice when it comes to cameras.

Any suggestions for me? I got some Christmas money but don't want to spend it ALL on a camera.

Can I get something for $200 or less to fit my needs? Or am I dreaming?
Yes, you really can get a good camera for little money. I love my DSLR (Nikon D90), however, sometimes I'm just in the mood for something small and portable. A few years back, before I got my DSLR (and only had a film SLR), I picked up a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX07 for just over $100. One of the things that makes this little guy have some oomph is that it has a Leica lens (!), and this helps.

It has video mode, portrait mode, landscape, close-up, scene (custom), and auto. It's a great little camera.

I was going to paste a link here for you, but I can't bc my computer is being a pain and I need to restart it - however, go to Amazon and enter Panasonic Lumix into the search box.

I've been ogling an 85mm for quite some time now, don't they look great? Especially for portraits (but, for anything really)...if you can keep the furs still, that is. Sigh.
