Hi occy;
I am on Mid Van Isl as well. My girl is named Roxy and she is 3 years old. Believe it or not I got her out of used Victoria on line.
She was neglected. Being in daycare, no kenneled, for weeks on end as her handler was in the interior at time dealing with family issues. Prior to that, Roxy was with a woman whose bf told her to get rid of her or he'd drowned Roxy....
When I got Roxy, she was a real mess. Underweight as well but overall in okay health.
She had issues, mostly with confidence. I got her August 2008. To this day she is the most well behaved little girl there is. She is so grateful I suspect to finally have a forever loving home.
She is my precious little princess of course.
I wonder if from pup or rescue is best. I got Roxy at 15mnths old. I bet she was a sweet pup and thought of how different it would of been should I of had her from a puppy. In any case we are together now. I wouldn't change it for the world. I would say keep an eye out for a rescue. I did for two years. I envisioned the dog I wanted and voila, there she was, two years later and where I least expected. I did check the S.P.C.A weekly as well as all the common rescue sites. I was prepared to travel stateside. Luckily I didn't have to. You are right that there are not many Yorkie's or Yorkie X's to rescue but there are. I have since met another local woman who got her Yorkie rescue.
My condolences on your loss. This must still be difficult. I can imagine.
No doubt ANGUS lived a wonderful life. Peace be with you. Bless your heart.
