i wanted to add:

1. Please research the Yorkshire breed. Make sure it's the right breed for your situation. Yorkies can be hyper, high strung, the can be hard to have around children and other dogs at times. Make sure this will work in your home.

2. Research your breeder. Are they making mixed dogs? If yes there is a red flag. Are their prices really cheap? Red flag. Did you find them in the paper? MAJOR RED FLAG Do they sell online to anyone without meeting in person and asking the potential buyer tons of questions? RED FLAG Do they ship anywhere you are? RED FLAG

3. Go to the breeders home and see where the pups are kept, born, raised.

4. DO NOT buy a pup under 12 weeks minimum in age.

5. Does the breeder show or have champion bloodlines? Not a requirement but a major plus if you find them.

6. Check the YTCA website for a listing of VERY reputable breeders across the Nation, but don't just stop there. Go SEE the dogs, the parents, meet your breeder and KNOW them well.

7. Avoid southern MO breeders unless they are YTCA breeders because as a person from MO that's where lots of the breeders hide. In MO's hills and ozarks they can hide their massive puppy mill operations.

8. DO NOT EVER purchase from a pet store. They are most often sick, dying, malnourished, parasite ridden, and from a puppy mill.

9. Christmas and Birthdays are NOT a good enough reason to just up and buy a dog.

10. READ READ READ. Libraries have lots of good resources on Yorkies and how to select a breeder and how to train a puppy. Know what you are getting into and have a plan way before you get that pup. Talk to your vet, get to know him/her and learn learn and learn all you can first. Then take a LONG time finding just the right breeder and pup for you. Don't just hurry and rush into the first good deal you find. Most wonderful breeders have waiting lists for their next litters.

and lastly ASK anything you need to know on here. We're happy to answer all your questions with honest and real answers from experiance.
