Sounds like my little girl! I rescued her from a backyard breeder in Harlem. She was afraid to come out of her crate for two days and was hand shy. She never barked and had very low energy.

Each day that I have her she becomes more and more like a "real" dog. I love to see her coming out of her shell and I'm thankful when she barks when someone is at the door.

I think Zoey will need lots of quiet time bonding with you. The trust and stability are essential. Also, she may have been feed a poor diet. Once you start feeding her healthy food, her energy might pick up. Finding the right kinds of toys that get her excited will go a long way to help Zoey feel playful, as well.
