I carried Max quite a bit the first week he was home. My family teased me that the dog's feet were probably never going to touch the ground.
In my limited experience, carrying only became an issue when training to socialize and to deal with new situations. When Max was unsure of something like a new person or a new experience, he would jump up on my leg begging to be picked up. I left him on the floor/ground to teach him to deal with things, rather than hide in the comfort of my arms.
