There could be alot of reasons. A good healthy growth spurt. Also, every once in awhile you'll hear of an unethical breeder who will underfeed and keep their pups tiny to try to get more money for them, then when the new owners get them home and start feeding them normally, their weight jumps up to what it should have been, and it's hello adorable teapot!
But, yeah, a good quality dog food without all the unnecessary fillers would help.
