That's because the technology for the actually proven testing was not available so a hypothesis sufficed then, well testing was available but the reliability-things that make you want to say hmmmmmmmmmmm? Who's doing this research now?
Would love to see advancements in the feild of Canine genetics, weather it be genetic marker tracking, DNA, breed identification, and many more useful this areas...even ending the great debates over whom is and isn't a Yorkie, their origin, mysteries surrounding white coloration, tricolor etc (exclusion of color mutations-they are a separate genetic issue that is well know and research). I wouldn't say just because some research was old it was not useful-personally-but I wouldn't bank it either-that seems like common sense to me.
