I set up a square. However, before setting it up I place a plastic picnic table cloth down, on top of that I place huge ruber tile squares (obtained at WalMart in the excercise department). I place the x-pen on top of the squares and secure it at each corner of the x-pen with tie-wraps. I do this to protect their little knees and legs. Inside x-pen area I place a pet tent, a small donut bed, pee pad in a corner, toys, water bottle and food plate attched to the side of the x-pen. For those pups that are climbers I add a top.
