When she was little we set it up as a square, just big enough for a potty pad, bed and food and water bowl. The potty pad covered almost the entire floor. After a few weeks I made the potty pad a little smaller so you could see some floor. After about a month I bought a second x pen and added two panels so it became a rectangle still keeping the potty pad, bed and food and water bowl inside taking her out only when we played. As she got older I used the x pen to block off the entrance to my kitchen and living room and she had the entire kitchen to explore. It took her about a year but now she finally potty pad trained. I don't have pictures.
