That sucks. It really should be a matter of preference. I don't like the idea of the crate, although, Kaji does have places that are all his own (his beds and his tent, etc). If I have another dog, and my way doesn't work, I will consider crate training, but it won't be my first choice.
The trainer really should respect your wishes. If he/she keeps bugging, they do know they risk getting a bad review.
