Regarding foods, you likely want to get him off of puppy chow if it is a standard grocery store type brand. There is a wealth of good information on this site about various food products - research and find what seems to be the best fit for you, your budget, and your pup.
Regarding potty training - consistency is the absolute key. Keep him (and yourselves) on a strict schedule. Every day: wake up at the same time, feed at the same time, go outside to potty at the same time (and frequently); rest and bed at the same time. It may seem like a pain but keeping a strict schedule will pay dividends quickly.
Resist any temptation you have to give him people food as "holiday treats"; keep him on his own food / treat diet.
You mentioned in a post an interest to breed. Since your immediate focus is on adjustment and training, take the time to educate yourselves on what breeding really entails. There is a lot one must know to do so properly and responsibly. This site offers a wealth of knowledge. Make use of it!!  |
Good advice! I don't see where they mentioned breeding-must have been another thread hope they know they have at least 3 years before they'll even know if they have a breedable dog...to find out about nay genetic disease he may have (carry) behavioral issues, his final developmental result; coat, statures, etc...
