The best different gift idea I've heard of this year is rather than to buy a material item is to buy an experience for someone (material gifts are often forgotten whereas an experience gift can be remembered for a lifetime). Even though you live far away is there not something in their area you could buy tickets for and have their parents take them? Or, even pay for a few lessons if they want to take a class; karate, guitar or art lessons, it was even suggested cooking lessons, but I don't know if your nephews would enjoy that
