Default Baby food?

I have always had trouble getting gastby to eat he will eat really well for a while then he will starve himself(normally when he is already a little anemic)
The vet said to give him yogurt in his food (taste of the wild) and that works for a few weeks then he will not eat for a day or two then one day he will just start up again (normally after losing about a pound of weight)

well a lady at the grocery store told me to try some meat and fruit baby food
meat one day and fruit the next
well i have some in the house because i feed turkey chicken and beef to my cat and banana, apple, kiwi, pear, any mixture of the four to my gecko turtle and guinea pig as a treat.
so i gave it a try and he did indeed eat his food better i could put about a tablespoon of turkey/banana baby food in his bowl and he gobbled the whole thing down

Is it okay to give him baby food?

I have tried:
-putting some water or chicken broth in his food to soften it,it dose not help
-putting canned food in his food to make it more appetizing, he hates canned food he will not eat even a mouth full
-rice and chicken breast in his kibble,he picks around the kibble and leaves the rest in the bowl

I was home-cooking but the pet nutritionist decided Gatsby would benefit more from a commercial food (he has bad spells of anemia)
I was doing everything right but from what she said its just not a great option for all dogs.

he has been on the taste of the wild for 6+ months i free fed him the Taste of the wild even before i stopped home cooking he would eat it then in fact he would pass on his home-cooked food for the taste of the wild
