IBD and stress Our 6 yo Abby has biopsy proven IBD with bouts of vomiting every couple weeks (including blood often). No diarrhea, though stools turn black and a bit loose after an episode. Bouts last 12-24 hours, and there's an obvious prodrome that tells us she's getting sick. We've learned how to cope with them with the help of our vet. Meds don't help, except anti-emetics.
The episodes happen almost like clockwork if there's STRESS... Examples: If we leave her with her "cousin" for a 3 day trip out of town (sometimes just packing suitcases will do it), having a large group over for a party, dogsitting her "cousin" for a couple days - anything that breaks up her otherwise obsessively clockwork routine. She never seems to be in pain, just sick and vomits.
Diet seems to have no bearing on it at all, even though she gets boiled chicken regularly, so it's fairly high protein. She can go months on the same diet with no problems, then vomit weekly for a month.
Anyone else have a dog like this? I think she needs psychiatric help more than a gastroenterologist!
Also, is this a "holistic" website? Seems many posts lean that direction |
