Hello!
We got Sophie on December 3rd at 8 1/2 weeks old, she will be 11 weeks this Wednesday. This is our first dog and although I've done A LOT of research I still have questions
I guess sometimes it's best to hear it from others than a book!
First, the first few days we had her she was great, low-key, quiet, and actually walked herself to her pee pads! Now, she doesn't have many accidents during the day because we watch her like a hawk if she's out of her x-pen, otherwise when she's in there she goes to the pad hersefl.
However, she seems to pee a lot! After she wakes up from a nap she'll go potty about 4 times in 20 minutes. And most of them seem like a lot. She doesn't drink too much water, but we do feed her wet food. Is this normal?
Also, for a few nights we thought she was sleeping through the night and holding it, only to discover she was peeing on her blanket. I was getting up every few hours to take her out, but the vet said that would start a habit and we should just let her tell us when she needs to go.
She also seems to poop a lot and on no set schedule. Sometimes she'll go right after she eats, other times hours after. Last night, for example, she went poop twice in the middle of the night.
Second, she seems to stop eating out of her bowl after a bit but will eat out of our hand. And, she also begins to shiver after she eats.
Third, she's likes to nip a lot even when we give her her chew toys. Anything else we can do.
And finally, she seems to go crazy for a few hours everyday, just running back and forth like a madwomen!! What gives?
Other than that she is great. She's a snuggle bunny and compared to other stories I've heard, she's great. We are using pee pads for now because we live in Illinois and it's cold. In addition, she's only 1 lb 9 oz. Oh, which reminds me, where can I find a harness for her?? The smallest ones at the pet stores are still too big!!
