My last dog got it from eating beneful. Once we switched he never got it again. |
???Although I think it is great you switched away from Beneful, the food choice cannot cause ear mites. If you were talking about the post you quoted about fungus, that cannot be caused by the brand of food either. The only parallel I can remotely imagine would be if the food was so poor that it left the pup with a low immune system. That would be pretty drastic. I think sometimes things just run their course and improve and it might be a coincidence that it happens at the same time you change food.
OP -- you hve gotten excellent advice, need the vet on this. Stinkly ears are a sure sign of infection of some sort (fungal or bacterial). It could also be ear mites that have gotten so bad that an infection is concurrent, but the smell says infection. Keep those ear hairs plucked and ears nice and dry and you will see less of this. To pluck ear hair, I use a forceps to grab a clump of hair, and then just wind it around the forceps several times, and pull. Comes out easily and without any pain to the pup. Only pull those downy hairs that grow inside the ear this way -- nothing on the outer ear or you will get a yelp!
