I had nightmares for years about those flying monkey things on Wizard of Oz. Our family always made a big thing of watching this movie every year when it came out (even in the years before it was colorized). Being the oldest of 6 kids, I was ashamed to admit that it scared the pants off me!
Clowns have always been just "wrong" to me too. My youngest son was always afraid of them. We made him go up and get his own balloon animal from the clown at a craft show -- he came back, pale & shaking! I had not realized just how scared he was of the clown or how much he must have wanted that balloon animal. After that -- we got the balloon for him.
I missed the oompa loompas but one look tells me they would have scared me to -- either color version!
Why do we scare kids like this?
Love the OP's story about her yorkie shaking & barking at the ASPCA ad. I think she is saying -- "Mom, help those poor dogs!"
