The article was written to encourage raw feeding saying that was the way to keep their teeth clean asthey had to rip and rend at the food instead of just swallowing. I have been reading a lot about the raw feeding ... the more I read the more I think I need to do it, but I just have this aversion to actual raw meat. I have a hard time even handling raw meat to prepare it for the human part of the family. But ..... I may just have to give it a try since I have one with bad teeth problems. A lot must depend on breed & genetics for teeth too though as all of mine eat the same and have everything else in common, yet one has excellent teeth and one has poor teeth. |
I think you're right...it must be genetic! It's the same in people....some people take amazing care of their teeth and have SUCH dental problems, and some brush once a day at most and never floss and have never had a cavity! Some people just have bad teeth
I had always believed that old myth about kibble helping clean their teeth and canned sticking in between them but have since found out that is FALSE!! There is at least one dog food company (Wellness maybe??) that has a coating on the kibbles that is designed to clean their teeth, but that is not so of all kibble! And like you said, a lot of dogs just swallow their kibble anyway, so it obviously wouldn't do them any good. Both of my girls crunch up each individual kibble though

I think it's cute to watch them eat because they eat one kibble at a time and crunch, crunch, crunch! lol!
