You really shouldn't stud him unless you are considering a serious breeding program. He would need lots of tests to demonstrate that he is free from genetic health problems, etc.
I suggest you neuter him a let him be a happy pet. Tell your husband that humans have way more sex than dogs. Even if your dogs was left intact, he would probably mate, what, 3 times in his life? Would that really be worth all the angst?
He will be happier, he will be less aggressive towards another dogs, he won't make unwanted advances on uninterested females, he won't want to mark in your house, he won't accidentally get that german shepard next door pregnant... weigh this against the benefit of feeling manly about your dog's balls. I think it's an easy decision.
