Have you looked for breeders on the AKC website? I started there, found a local club that the recognize, and went through the club's breeders list. Then I searched each breeder here and read comments. Others were several I would have been comfortable with and I emailed each one telling them what I was looking for and how I was prepared to care for the dog. I was originally looking for a puppy to adopt during the holidays for the same reason as you - time off and quiet household - but I found Tallulah and couldn't wait.
