If it is respiratory, an antibiotic and nebulizer is in store. Many vets rent nebulizers. The bottle of nebulizer solution usually runs about $20, the machine requires a deposit of $50 and you get $25 back when you return it. You may need the chamber and tubing separate. If there is not a sterile one with the unit, ask for a prescription for one and expect to buy it at any drugstore for about $6. You use to get them without a prescription but not now. The dog can get cold with the nebulizer blowing in on him. Cuddle him in a fuzzy fleece with just his head out and put him in a small carrier while nebulizing. The carrier will act like a chamber for the flow of med in the pocket of space he has his little nose sticking out of. He should be nebulized 3 X per day at about 30 minutes each time. Ask the vet for instructions on how he/she wants you to nebulize. Also, I hold my yorkie wrapped in a fuzzy afterwards up to my shoulder so that as they cough out the congestion you can make sure he is not choking and it helps him breathe easier. Also light tapping on the lungs helps dislodge any congestion mucus so he can cough it out. I generally lie down wth the yorkie while he is getting his treatment and keep my hand inside the fleece and under his chin. This helps them not fear the treatment so much. I hope if congestion is the problem that this will help.
Thank you for the info.

The vet believes this is just kennel cough, though, so I'm not sure if that would be necessary!

Its great info for the future though!
