Ha ha, there are benefits to having a slow dog. Thor completely misses the signs a bath is coming. He loathes the bath part, but he enjoys being blow dryed and brushed.
As for nails, I check them every night. If I find any that need clipping, I clip one and only one. Then Thor gets a treat. He still doesn't love it, but he tolerates it, and it gets him used to me handling his paws.
